You cannot download Opera Max anymore. Opera discontinued the data-saving app in August 2017 and removed it from Google Play, and it never had a Windows or Mac version at all. If you want what it did, data compression and basic traffic protection, the modern replacements are built into the Opera browser itself.

Opera Max was an Android app that routed your phone’s traffic through Opera’s servers over a VPN-style tunnel and compressed images and video along the way, with savings that Opera advertised at up to 50 percent on media-heavy apps. In August 2017 Opera shut the service down and pulled the app from Google Play with immediate effect, saying the app had a substantially different value proposition from its browser products and that the company would focus on the browsers instead. Because the compression happened on Opera’s servers, the shutdown was total: once those servers went offline, the app had nothing to talk to.
The technology got a second life in 2018 when Samsung relaunched it as Samsung Max, a data-saving and privacy app for Samsung phones. That was a Samsung product for Samsung devices, not a revival of Opera Max, and it was never available for PC either. If you see the two names used interchangeably on download sites, that is the history behind it.
Opera folded the useful ideas into its browsers, which is good news for PC users, since the browsers actually run on Windows. The current Opera browser for Windows ships with a free built-in VPN, a built-in ad blocker (blocking ads is where most real-world data savings come from now), and a battery saver mode. Outside the browser, Windows 10 and Windows 11 have their own tools for the problem Opera Max solved: set a connection as metered and cap it under Settings, Network and internet, Data usage. There was never an Opera Max for Windows 11, Windows 10 or Windows 7, and nothing today needs to fill that slot, because system-wide compression proxies quietly became obsolete once mobile data got cheaper and nearly all traffic moved to encrypted HTTPS that third parties cannot compress. One more Opera option worth knowing about: Opera GX, the company’s gaming browser, ships with GX Control, a panel that lets you cap how much RAM, CPU and network bandwidth the browser is allowed to use. A hard bandwidth limiter inside the browser is the closest thing on a modern PC to what Opera Max did on a phone, and it is the feature to look at if your real problem is one machine hogging a shared or capped connection.
APK archives still host Opera Max installers from 2017. There is no reason to touch them. The app depended entirely on Opera’s compression servers, which have been off for nearly a decade, so an old APK cannot save a single byte of data. It is just an unpatched 2017 binary with nothing on the other end. GT Messenger Recovery is an old Android tool that tried to undelete Facebook Messenger chats. It has been abandoned for years, it needs a rooted phone for real scans, and there is no PC version. On a modern Android phone it cannot get past encryption, so in 2026 your realistic options are backups, not recovery apps.

GT Messenger Recovery belongs to the GT Recovery family of Android undeletion tools that were popular in the mid 2010s. The idea was simple: when an app deletes a message, the data often lingers on the phone’s storage until it is overwritten. GT Recovery scanned raw storage for leftover chat database fragments from Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and SMS, then rebuilt what it could into a readable list.
The catch was always root. Android does not let one app read another app’s private data, so a meaningful scan requires root access. Without root, tools like this could only look at shared folders such as downloads and media, which is where a file manager like ES File Explorer already gets you without any recovery app at all.
The app has not been meaningfully updated in years, its download has disappeared from Google Play and even from some mirror catalogs, and the Android platform it was built for no longer exists in the same form. Three changes closed the door:
Any site still offering a GT Messenger Recovery APK today is distributing an abandoned binary that cannot deliver what its listing promises. We do not link those mirrors.
You could technically sideload the old APK into BlueStacks on Windows, but think about what that gives you: a brand new virtual Android phone with empty storage. Your deleted messages were never on it, so there is nothing for the app to scan. Recovery tools only ever made sense running on the device that actually held the data.
Desktop recovery suites that claim to pull deleted chats from a connected phone hit the same walls: they need USB debugging plus root, and on a current phone they face the same encryption. Treat bold recovery promises from paid desktop tools with the same skepticism.
Facebook Messenger: your chats live on Facebook’s servers, not just your phone. Before assuming a conversation is deleted, check archived chats in the Messenger app (search for the person’s name, archived threads reappear). You can also use Facebook’s Download Your Information tool from account settings to export a full copy of your message history. If you deleted a conversation yourself, Meta removes it from your account and no third party app can undo that.
WhatsApp: restore from your Google Drive backup. Uninstall WhatsApp, reinstall it, verify your number, and accept the restore prompt. This brings back everything up to the last backup. WhatsApp also keeps a short series of local backup files on the phone, so a slightly older local backup can sometimes rescue a chat deleted after the last cloud backup.
Going forward: turn on automatic backups now. Messenger needs nothing extra, WhatsApp wants the Google Drive backup enabled, and a regular Google One device backup covers SMS. Backups made before a deletion are the only recovery method that reliably works on modern phones.
Check archived chats first, then use Facebook’s Download Your Information export. Messages you archived or that were hidden by a glitch will surface this way. Messages you permanently deleted from your own account are gone from Meta’s servers and no app, on phone or PC, can retrieve them.
Not from any official source. It is gone from Google Play and the developer has not shipped an update in years. Old copies of version 1.0.5 still sit on APK mirror sites, but the app cannot do useful work on a current Android phone, so downloading it only adds sideloading risk for no benefit.
Not for its core job. Without root it could never scan the protected storage where chat databases live. On a rooted older phone (roughly the Android 5 to 7 era it was built for) it had a real success rate. On anything recent, root alone does not defeat the encryption.
You can install one, but it is pointless. An emulator is a fresh virtual device that never contained your deleted messages. For recovery, the only device that matters is the phone the messages were deleted from, and for that phone the answer in 2026 is a backup.
GT Messenger Recovery earned its downloads a decade ago, but it is abandoned software solving a problem that encryption has since sealed shut. Do not chase its APK, and do not pay a desktop tool that promises the same magic. Check Messenger’s archive, pull your Facebook data export, restore your WhatsApp backup, and switch automatic backups on so this never bites again. There is no official Paytm app for Windows or Mac, and you do not need one. On a PC, open paytm.com in your browser and log in with your mobile number: recharges, bill payments, and bookings all work there. UPI money transfers still need the Paytm app on your phone, because UPI is tied to your SIM.

Paytm’s real PC version is its website. It is the same account as your app, and for the tasks people actually search “Paytm for PC” for, it covers almost everything.
People search for a Paytm desktop app or a Paytm download for PC, but One97 has never shipped a Windows or Mac program, and the reason is UPI itself. UPI links your bank account to the SIM card in your phone: activation verifies your number by SMS from the handset, and payments authorize on that same device. A desktop cannot hold your SIM, so a desktop UPI app would not be able to do the one thing Paytm is best known for. The browser plus phone combination is the design, not a workaround.
Technically you can install the Paytm Android app inside BlueStacks from its official Play listing, but we do not recommend it for this app, and it is worth being straight about why. UPI setup inside an emulator fails at device verification, since the emulator has no SIM to send the activation SMS from. What remains working, recharges and bill payments, is exactly what paytm.com already does in a normal browser tab with less setup. For Paytm, the emulator route is effort spent to reach a worse version of the website.
If you are a merchant, Paytm does have a proper desktop-friendly tool: the Paytm for Business dashboard at business.paytm.com. Log in with your business account to track payments, settlements, and reports from a computer, which is far more comfortable than the phone app for accounting work. This is separate from the consumer Paytm account, and it is entirely browser based too.
No. One97 Communications does not make a Windows or Mac app. The official ways to use Paytm on a computer are paytm.com for consumers and business.paytm.com for merchants, both in the browser.
There is nothing to download. Open paytm.com, log in with your mobile number and the OTP sent to your phone, and use recharges, bills, and bookings directly. Any site offering a “Paytm for PC” installer is repackaging something Paytm does not ship.
