What TubeMate is and why it is not on Google Play
TubeMate is one of the oldest Android video downloaders still in active use. You paste or browse to a video, pick a resolution, and the app saves the file to local storage for offline viewing. It also handles audio-only saves, which is what most people quietly use it for.
You will not find it on Google Play, and that is by design rather than a red flag: Google’s store policy does not allow apps that download videos from YouTube, so TubeMate has always been distributed directly by its developer at tubemate.net. That is the only official source. The current release listed there is TubeMate3, version 3.4.20.1551 as of this writing. Be careful with lookalike domains: a whole cottage industry of “TubeMate” sites with other extensions distributes repackaged APKs, and none of them are the vendor.
One honest note before the guide: downloading videos from YouTube generally goes against YouTube’s terms of service unless the video offers an official download option or you have the rights to it. Use TubeMate for your own content and material you are permitted to save offline.

Install TubeMate on Windows with an emulator
Since there is no Play Store listing, the setup differs a little from the usual emulator routine. You will download the APK inside the emulator, from the official site only.

- Open BlueStacks and launch the built-in Android browser (Chrome, once you sign in to Google).
- Go to tubemate.net inside that browser and download the TubeMate3 APK from the site’s own buttons.
- Expect a Google Play Protect warning during install. Google flags YouTube downloaders as a category, and the official site itself tells users to expect this. Proceed only because you fetched the file from tubemate.net directly; the same warning on a file from a mirror site is a reason to stop.
- Open TubeMate, grant storage permission, and set the download folder in its settings.
- To move finished files to Windows, use the BlueStacks Media Manager (in the emulator’s system apps) to export them to a Windows folder.
Common problems and fixes
- Downloads stall at 0 percent: this usually means the app version is outdated after a YouTube change. Return to tubemate.net and install the newest TubeMate3 build over the old one; your settings survive the update.
- Files missing on Windows: the download finished inside the emulator’s storage. Open Media Manager in BlueStacks and use “Export to Windows” to copy files out.
- Resolution list looks short: higher resolutions often download video and audio separately and merge them, which needs the in-app MP3 and merge component TubeMate prompts you to install on first use. Accept that prompt inside the emulator.
Honest take: you may not need TubeMate on a PC at all
TubeMate exists to solve a phone problem: saving video for offline use on a device where browsers cannot easily do that. On a desktop, that problem barely exists. Native Windows downloader apps and long-running open source tools do the same job without an emulator in the middle, usually faster and with direct access to your file system. Running TubeMate on PC mainly makes sense if you already use it daily on your phone and want the identical interface, or if you are testing it before installing it on a device.
